cpd

We are all committed to lifelong learning and the need for formal CPD has increased over the years. What was once regarded as optional is now regarded as compulsory by the RCVS (see the latest Guide to Professional Conduct) and we should be taking the lead in making provision for ourselves and our colleagues.

available schemes

There are several CPD schemes and they are all differ slightly in their requirements (RCVS, RCPath, ECVP and ECVCP). Although some of us have negotiated to try and produce a single, unified scheme there seems to be little prospect of that at the moment.

joining a scheme

Veterinarians and members of the various Colleges that award post-graduate qualifications are automatically expected to register with their schemes. In some instances, however, you may have to fill in two sets of forms.

For those that are not in a formal scheme, the Royal College of Pathologists (see Links page) will allow scentists to register in their audited, on-line scheme (for an annual fee).

Veterinarians are expected to comply with the RCVS scheme as well as any other organisation's plan. At present that means some duplication of effort.

BSVP CPD meetings

Providing for all the CPD needs of such a diverse specialty as ours will not be particularly easy but, with your help, we will do our best. We will also be seeking formal accreditation for our courses and meetings.

With a regional structure we would aim to hold two CPD courses in each region every year as well as the AGM and the Educational Programme.
