training: RTPA
For the fourth year running, the Registry of Toxicologic Pathology for Animals (RTPA) is sponsoring an online conference series that allows registered members to discuss mechanisms of diseases with colleagues from around the world! This entirely web based conference provides toxicologic pathologists with an anonymous forum for the exchange of ideas and information regarding issues within the field.
Although the RTPA wesite is a bit cluttered and difficult to find one's way around, the four slides posted are interesting and thought-provoking. Participants can zoom in on the images (which are not always very clear) and either post their comments or exit anonymously. Answers come a few days later.
During 2003, the RTPA will host nine Histopathology conference sessions. Each session will focus on four thought provoking cases submitted by participating organizations.
Unique features include:
-
Members may login, view images, read, contribute to discussions 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
-
For a flat fee and two case submissions, an organization can register ALL staff pathologists as members for all nine sessions during 2003.
-
Cases are current, relevant and discussion worthy, with high-quality digital images submitted by participating organizations from all over the world.
-
Continuing Education credits (CE) can be earned from your desktop with no lost time due to travel.
- Members have access to archived cases from the previous online conference sessions.

Each participating institution may enroll all of its staff pathologists as members in exchange for a group fee and two case submissions.
As an introductory offer to new academic instutions, in 2003 the RTPA will provide full membership privileges to the institution's pathologists in exchange for the submission of 2 cases (the annual fee is waived).
Independent/ consultants can also participate for a registration fee and one case submission. The cases can be examples of animal models, transgenic animal pathology, plant, environmental, chemical, or clinical toxicologic pathology, and pharmaceutical pathology.
The ESTP and the ECVP also offer online histopathological slide quizzes.
