The BSVP held their annual scientific meeting – Alimentary and Liver Pathology on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th November 2015 at the University of Glasgow. Our keynote speaker this year was John Cullen, Professor of Anatomic Pathology at North Carolina State University and member of the WSAVA Liver biopsy interpretation standardization group. We were very lucky to have John after 2 of his planes were cancelled so that he arrived into Glasgow Friday morning! We are very grateful to John for his enthusiastic participation in the meeting though he must have been quite fatigued.
Topics covered included alimentary pathology in the pig, horse and dog, and in exotic and captive wildlife and fish. Congenital vascular disease of the liver was examined in complimentary lectures from the pathological and clinical perspectives, and John Cullen covered congenital biliary disease and chronic hepatitis. The slide session led by John on the Saturday afternoon was both entertaining and informative and generated some good discussion. The BSVP awarded a Travel Bursary to Alison Lee of University College Dublin for her presentation of hepatic encephalopathy in a mare.
We wish to thank Pamela, Katie and all at Glasgow for their hard work and organisation, which ensured a great meeting. And to thank all our speakers who for such interesting and informative lectures.
The annual meeting and AGM will be held in Bristol in 2016 with the proposed topic of Reproductive and Endocrine Pathology.
