The BSVP regional meeting at Bristol was held on Wednesday October 16th. The topic this time was Diagnostic Dilemmas in Equine Dermatology with Trevor Whitbread presenting lesions that give particular problems to the pathologist. In the first part of the presentation Trevor discussed hoof diseases including coronary band dystrophy, keratoma and canker. Debra Fews from Bristol provided additional case material. For the second part the theme was vasculitis including photoactivated and septic disease and the difficulty of detecting the subtle changes with pastern leukocytoclastic vasculitis. Whilst on the equine dermatology theme Mike Rozmanec presented eosinophilic collagenolytic granuloma and discussed differential aetiologies. Additional cases presented by members of the group included a rhabdomyosarcoma of the orbit in a young dog, indolent corneal ulcer in a horse and hypertensive retinal detachment complicating a case of corneal sequestrum in a cat.
