This training module was held in June 2013 at the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory, Backweston Campus, Celbridge. This is part of the Irish State Veterinary Laboratory Service. This was the first time a BSVP module was held in Ireland and it introduced the BSVP to a sizeable number of first time attendees to one of these training modules. There was an excellent line up of high calibre speakers from Canada, Spain, Great Britain, Northern Ireland and Ireland. Topics covered included basic principles of respiratory pathology, classification of pneumonias, pulmonary fibrosis as well as species-specific respiratory pathology. Useful discussion was generated on all topics and particularly in relation to Jeff Caswell’s excellent presentation on the classification of pneumonias. A total of 27 delegates from government, university and private laboratories in Great Britain, Northern Ireland and Ireland attended. It wasn’t all work as we got the opportunity to socialise in a Tapas bar in a sunny Dublin city centre on the first evening.
